Cold War II

I’ve been listening, or more accurately reading, off and on the reports on Georgia and Russia.  I was mildly disturbed but figured everything would be ok (it’s nice in my little world).  Honestly, lately I’ve been so stressed about family problems that I’ve been decidedly ostrich like when it comes to anything that I think might make me more unhappy/stressed/uncomfortable.

But then I had to get my news fix and I saw a headline on CNN that grabbed my attention.  You can read the entire article here.  The bit that says the bombs had messages on them saying that they were for America, Nato, and Bush really bothered me.  Why?  I’m not entirely sure but I think it has something to do with how much we (Americans) hated the Japanese during WWII and how we wrote similar messages on our own bombs…I guess I think it takes a certain level of hate to go out and graffiti your bombs in such a way. I hadn’t really thought that we were that hated by Russia.  Yes, I’ve been concerned off and on about Putin and his ‘new’ leadership of Russia…and now his prime ministership…but.  Well I think I had my head in the sand.  I’ve been so focused on China being the next threat (paranoid of me you say?…we’ll see who’s speaking Mandarin in 2108) that I hadn’t really been paying that much attention to Russia.  I’m starting to think maybe I should pay more attention.

Do you think the conflict between Georgia and Russia is indicative of problems between the US and Russia or am I taking paranoia to a whole other level?
