Gay Marriage
I know it hasn’t been in the news lately but as I was going to my doc apt today I saw a sign in a yard (like political signs) that said something to the effect of marriage is one man and one woman….don’t remember the exact wording but it was pushing for marriage to be legally defined and that got me thinking (again) about gay marriage.
How is that a legal matter? Isn’t marriage kind of a religious thing? I can see a religion defining marriage strictly but as far as marriage in the legal binding sense….why should it be illegal for a man to marry a man or a chick to marry another chick. For that matter, legally, what difference does it make if one chick wants to marry two guys or three chicks want to marry one guy.
Don’t answer me with scripture I’m talking law. We have that whole no discrimination thing ironed out in the Constitution, right? Isn’t telling someone who they can marry discrimination?
Really, most of you are pretty smart. Someone explain to me the legal basis behind telling someone who you can or can’t marry. I would especially like someone who is adamantly opposed to gay marriage to explain why to me. All of the answers I’ve found are based on prejudice and fear… someone set me straight

Far away from Florida, on the other side of the country, the state of California is locked in the 10th round of a death match over Prop. 8, the anti-gay marriage amendment.
It most certainly has been in the news, but on the other coast…
I agree with you. I am in favor of anyone getting married to whomever they please. I like your one chick to two guys
Seriously thought I’m sick and tired of Religion always playing a part in politics. It’s just a simple matter of equality for all.

Gay marriage is a slap in the face to God, who clearly invented marriage to be between two Christian adults of the opposite sex. The Bible clearly states that gay marriage is responsible for killing babies, ruining economies, and disenfranchising redneck plumbers.
Honestly I don’t think the government should have anything to do with marriage.
Have common-law for the legal side, marriage for the religious side. You can do both if you want, but the church doesn’t have to if it doesn’t want to.
Not every straight couple wants or does get married by the church, and will often go that route anyway.
In certain sects of Christianity they do believe homosexuality is a sin, and it is their right to believe that. They should not be forced to marry gays in their church, but nor should their will be imposed on other Americans.
I think there are so many straight people make a mockery of the marriage and God thing (till death do us part vows made before their God in church) through divorce proceedings that I really don’t understand why they say it affronts God for gay people to marry. It affronts God to divorce, especially the Catholic God apparently. Does that mean that Catholics shouldn’t marry either because statistically in the US they’re likely to break their vows in a divorce court? People who love each other should be allowed to marry. Who cares what gender they are.
Personally I’ve got my hands full with picking up after one man so I’ll skip the multiple husbands - but y’all are welcome to as many as you think you can keep in line!
