It Wasn’t a Train Wreck

Published by eclecticbird at 10:55 pm under Democrat, Republican Edit This

I only got to hear the last half hour of the debate but it wasn’t the train wreck I was afraid it would be.  I had really prepared myself for both of them to suck.  If you didn’t get to watch it you can read the transcript here.  I’d call it a tie except for the fact that I was really expecting Palin to suck enough for me to decide not to vote for McCain…she didn’t suck that bad so I’m giving the win to her ;)

That’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, and I’ve come to be fond of you through your posts, but that’s crap. To call it a win for Palin because she didn’t suck outright is to denigrate the position to which she aspires. Both of them, regardless of their background, should be able to spout off talking points. She provided no answers, no substance, and no clarity. She was good for some occasional one-liners, and some folksy tales. Is that the level of achievement that you hold a VP to? Honestly?

I have friends who could have given similar type answers without someone having coached them and scripted “to go” responses to probable issues that would be raised. No she didn’t fall on her face and cost the election there and then, so the Republican Party can breathe easier, but she’s not the maverick she claims, she’s a loose cannon that doesn’t understand enough about what’s going on, why it’s happening and how to stop it - it’s too much “John McCain and I, the Maverick Team - GO AMERICA!”. I want to see a real VP representative of the American people I know in the US White House, not a hockey cheerleader who has had weeks to step up her credibility and so far only seems to take steps down.

I don’t want you to hate anyone. I don’t hate anyone. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings, however, if you did recognize that she’s uniquely and supremely unqualified to hold the office she’s seeking. Or be insulted by her blatant lack of understanding even the most simple issues. Or to expect more from a Vice Presidential candidate beyond repeating memorized catch words and phrases that are supposed to make the idiots in the focus groups hit the pedal.

It’s the second highest office in America, right behind Treasury Secretary, and we should hold those that aspire to it to the same level, not give one preferential treatment then call it a win because we lowered our expectations and she managed not to burst into tears, drool, or wet herself on stage.

But by all means, craft up an eff Palin post. ;)

I am unbiased in the fact that I would vote for who deserves the vote. What do you say?
