Happy Halloween

Published by eclecticbird under Fun Edit This

Happy Halloween everyone!  This is one of my favorite holidays ( what’s not to love about costumes and candy).  I’ll be spending the day traveling and tonight I’ll be at Epcot ::happy happy::  Anywho in the spirit of Halloween and in keeping with my political theme I’d like you to take a minute to consider another candidate…a candidate who isn’t pretty, who doesn’t look good in lipstick, someone from humble beginnings and who represents a little of everyone.

Who is this new candidate?  Frankenstein.  Don’t let the spin tactics of the Dracula supporters sway you.  Focus on policy points and eloquence ():o)

Obama

Published by eclecticbird under Barack Obama Edit This

As you know I don’t watch TV so I obviously didn’t see this last night.  Just in case you didn’t get a chance to watch it I thought I’d post it for you.

I Voted

I have been fighting with myself for the last several days about who to vote for.  I know I said I decided I was going to vote for Barr but as I’ve been out and about I’ve been talking to different people (You’ll be shocked I’m sure but I love to talk to people and I swear I could strike up a conversation with a deaf mute) anywho everyone I talked to was voting for McCain.  Everyone.

As you all know I live in Florida, a ‘battleground’ state that now has a chance to go either way.  Usually Florida goes Republican so voting for Barr would have been a symbolic vote for me.  (I’ve decided I am straight down Libertarian and have never voted Democrat in any major election) BUT….I don’t want McCain to win.  I don’t even want him to win a little bit as a matter of fact I want him to LOSE.  After a lot of thought I realized that if I voted for Barr and McCain won it would be partially my fault (on the flip side if I vote for Obama and he is the socialist lefty that I fear I’m screwed and I just sold my sold my soul to the devil) but ultimately there were several things I do like about Obama and so I played my ‘you have to choose’ game and decided that if I had to choose between just Obama and McCain I’d choose Obama.

So….I voted for Obama.

Now I’m going to have to make up for it by becoming rabidly libertarian for the next four years ;-)

PS

I’m sorry Bob :(

Not Another Old Dude Cliché

Published by eclecticbird under Fun, What?! Edit This

When I first heard this I wanted to shoot myself but…I don’t know.  She’s kinda cute in that dumb blonde sort of way.  So I listened to it again and she actually has policy ideas that don’t suck.  Shocking I know.  I think she is a lot more intelligent than people give her credit for (probably as or more so than many in Washington) and I have money that says in the next ten years or so she’s going to be in politics…. while I’m making predictions I’ll say state level then in Washington.  Any takers?

Ok now for a little game I use to play called if you had to choose.  (this is for those tough decisions)  If you had to choose between McCain and Paris who would you pick?  You HAVE to pick one of them so don’t toss Obama in.  (pretend Paris is old enough)

Is that a question?

I don’t want to spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it so watch then read.

She looked pissed when he asked if it was a joke and he looked like he really thought she was joking.  The look on his face was great but when added with the look on hers…priceless.  I can’t believe he would really think she was joking though simply because so many people are making exactly that ‘ridiculous comparison’.  Now before any of you militant leftist get your knickers in a twist I’m not saying the democrats are pushing socialism…that would be a different post.  I just thought the exchange between Biden and the chick was pretty funny.  What did you think?

Published by eclecticbird under Fun Edit This

A friend of mine got me (yes, I’m gullible) with this video so I thought I’d share it with all of you so you could get your favorite sucker….uh friend.  Oh…and the reason it worked so well on me is because he used his real name and set it up and all…very cool.

BAH I can’t get it to show up so you’ll have to click here.

If you try it on anyone and it works let me know I’d love to know I’m not the only twit in the world…hubby saw right through it, I think Grandma was a little too much.  ::sigh:: that or I am just really really really really trusting/dim/easy :)

A Song for Palin

Published by eclecticbird under Fun, John McCain Edit This

For Mrs. Palin…my boy Trent (purr) with The Hand That Feeds.

“You’re Keeping in step

In the line

Got your chin held high and you feel just fine

Cause you do what you’re told…

What if this whole crusade’s

A charade

And behind it all there’s a price to be paid

For the blood

 On which we dine

Justified in the name of the holy and the divine…”

PS

If you are a twisted little rhino you can find that other song here.

Any other requests? :)

McCain’s New Song

Published by eclecticbird under Fun, John McCain Edit This

The name of the song is Fake It and the band is Seether.  What does this have to do with my political blog?  Well the video has nil to do with politics but I was listening to the song earlier and they lyrics hit me as being quite appropriate for how I’ve been feeling about politicians in general and John McCain specifically.  I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m disappointed in him and well…yeah.

“Who’s to know if your soul will fade at all

The one you sold to fool the world

You lost your self-esteem along the way….

Good god you’re coming up with reasons

Good god you’re dragging it out

Good god it’s the changing of the seasons…

You’re such a ….hypocrite…”

Gay Marriage

Published by eclecticbird under Issues Edit This

I know it hasn’t been in the news lately but as I was going to my doc apt today I saw a sign in a yard (like political signs) that said something to the effect of marriage is one man and one woman….don’t remember the exact wording but it was pushing for marriage to be legally defined and that got me thinking (again) about gay marriage.

How is that a legal matter?  Isn’t marriage kind of a religious thing?  I can see a religion defining marriage strictly but as far as marriage in the legal binding sense….why should it be illegal for a man to marry a man or a chick to marry another chick.  For that matter, legally, what difference does it make if one chick wants to marry two guys or three chicks want to marry one guy.

Don’t answer me with scripture I’m talking law. We have that whole no discrimination thing ironed out in the Constitution, right?  Isn’t telling someone who they can marry discrimination?

Really, most of you are pretty smart.  Someone explain to me the legal basis behind telling someone who you can or can’t marry.  I would especially like someone who is adamantly opposed to gay marriage to explain why to me.  All of the answers I’ve found are based on prejudice and fear… someone set me straight ;)

Voter Test

Published by eclecticbird under What?! Edit This

You know….I’ve been on a bit of a rant tonight.  It started brewing after reading a few blogs about ::shock:: the election/politicians and then I had an off class tonight which lead to my education rant and made me think.  Stupid people drive me completely nuts.  I’m not talking about people who are handicapped or have a learning disability but those people with ‘normal’ IQs that are just…teched as my grandma would say.

So back to that education rant.  I was supposed to be a US History/civics/economics teacher.  Kids in Florida get my class and then maybe one or two more classes of some combination of the material I covered in high school.  They don’t have to actually pass any of these classes by more than the barest margin and we send them off to be voters. Heck…some voters don’t pass any of those classes or even graduate and they still get to vote.  How is this a good idea?

We make people take a test to drive because they could kill/maim/harm someone if they don’t know how to drive.  That makes sense.  Teachers have to pass tests before they are allowed to teach children so that (in theory anyway) the children get the correct information so they can go on to be productive adults.  That also makes sense.  Every profession that I know of has requirements and many of them have tests…but to vote you just have to be eighteen?  What is that?

We, as a nation, are allowing people who have absolutely NO understanding of our government, our history, or our laws to elect officials who then feel the need to pander to these people with flashy commercials and bailouts to guarantee these uneducated voters vote for them.

I know the history of people being refused the right to vote and why the law is in place so don’t give me a history lesson (I taught it, I promise).  I don’t think the test should be set up to discriminate against people unless the people it discriminates against are people who don’t have a basic understanding of our country/constitution/government (go on…ask someone the three branches of the government or how many congressmen are in their state….heck as someone how many senators are in their state…go on.   Call a few random people, I’ll wait.   You want a test now too, don’t you?)

So yeah.  I want people to have to take a test to be allowed to vote for MY government representatives.  What about you?  If not, please tell me why this is a bad idea.  If you agree what questions would be on your test?
