The Average Person is too Stupid to Vote
Well that should just about ensure that I never get elected to public office but dang if I don’t think that more and more often. So I’ve read some pretty stupid posts (they are entitled to their opinion and I’m allowed to think their stupid) and news articles about the New Yorker artwork I posted about yesterday.
So the people who are too stupid to vote:
· People who don’t understand satire.
· People who don’t get that the New Yorker was making fun of the people who are griping about stupid stuff that isn’t even usually (the hand bump was true but it’s there and funny because people freaked out about it) true about Obama.
· People who think it matters what religion Obama is. This is AMERICA people. The country was founded on the principles of freedom of religion. You can worship little puppies in AMERICA if you want to and still run for office and that should be ok. But for you neo-nazi twits out there who think that you should only run for office if you are a “good” Christian (and really, if you are a good Christian post me and let’s talk theology and I don’t mean the bubble gum wwjd blather that passes for a theological discussion either) Obama IS Christian ~that’s what makes the cover of the New Yorker FUNNY…he’s depicted as Muslim because of the stupid people out there who think he is Muslim because he’s black and his name is Obama.
· The 12% of the population who think he used the Koran to swear into the Senate – he didn’t (see above) and if he did how does that affect his ability to run a country that is NOT a religious state?
· People who get it and think the rest of America is too stupid to get it so it shouldn’t be published. Hello Obama camp and fans I’m talking to you!(the difference between me and them…I think a lot of America is probably too stupid to get it but I still think it should be published because maybe I’m wrong and it would make them see how silly they’ve been)
· People who say they are disappointed in the New Yorker because it is the politically correct thing to do…Hello McCain camp and fans I’m talking to you!
I’ll stop before I alienate everyone. I get worked up sometimes ():o) Anywho if you want to read the article that fired me up it is here. ::sigh:: I don’t really think the above things should be used to keep people from voting but….well maybe. ;) Hate me yet?

I still think all voters should be required to take a common sense test before being allowed to cast their ballot!
Btw, just one thing about the fist bump. If it truly is a terrorist sign then I’m guessing most of the teenage stars on the Disney Channel are terrorist because they use it all the time - albeit I wouldn’t mind of some of them stepped out of the spotlight!! Maybe it started out as that decades ago but it has been part of the American culture for a long time now. Personally, I don’t get it *shrugs*.
I think some of the issue re. the New Yorker (at least for me) wasn’t that it was done but that if the same thing had been done using McCain there would have been heads rolling before dawn. For me it’s the double standard involved. I did hear the article was very good though.
The reason I didn’t vote when I was first eligible was because I didn’t think I had the right to. I wasn’t informed enough about politics. Stupid people should not vote, and I’m not afraid to go a step farther and say conservatives should not vote. Anyone who gets their news from Fox News is not getting news.
Regarding the New Yorker cover, I still have some mixed feelings over it. Although it was meant as a satire, that was not my first thought when I saw it. The problem is there’s a large fraction of people out there who are terrified of the idea of a president with “Hussein” as a middle name. Though I doubt these people read the New Yorker, the controversial cartoon would only seem to add fuel to their fires.
I am sick of things being dumbed down also. However, I don’t believe pretending the dumb down isn’t taking place is an effective way to address it. I hope I am wrong. I live inside the beltway–but “home” is Texas. My inbox is filled with misinformation re: Obama–and interestingly enough, the only thing I have received about McCain was a glowing tribute to his wife–who according to this email must be St. Thersa…The people who want to believe Obama is the antiChrist truly believe we are the one’s who are too stupid to “get it”–we are the enemy in their eyes–and they have just been given a new poster courtesy New Yorker. I haven’t gotten to say a thing about how very on target I thought the cover was–I just think it will be used in the wrong way based on what I have already seen–and I am sick of it.
I love this post. I think the average person is way too stupid to vote! Obama is a great candidate regardless of what people are thinking about him, and hopefully those people who think that about Obama will not vote at all, because the last thing we need is another Republican in the office.
In New Orleans, politicians almost admit they believe their voting base is too stupid to vote. On election days, groups on street corners pass out ‘ballot guides’; papers for stupids to take into the voting booth that list which candidate to vote for in each race. Great post!
Eclecticbird,
You are nearing goddess like status with each post.
For years, I have believed that most people are too stupid to vote. A test on basic Constitutional rights and a short essay on the Declaration of Independence should be required before anyone is near the ballot box. The test, of course, would be in English.
Someone above mentioned that Fox News was not a reliable source—personally; I believe the truth lies somewhere between NPR and Fox.
