The Answer to the Energy Crisis!
The answer to the energy crisis is, according to Sen. John Warner, a national speed limit. My initial reaction was how did this twit get elected to the Senate but then…well no that is still my reaction. In his defense ( I do try to be open minded) he didn’t actually say that a national speed limit was the answer to the energy crisis he simply requested a report to see if a national speed limit could help with fuel prices. To me, that’s still ridiculous. I think it is pretty clear that we need to be focusing on alternative forms of transportation, alternative fuel sources, or looking at drilling our own oil (don’t throw tomatoes folks, it is something that should at least be considered). I really don’t think a United States senator should be wasting our time and money figuring out how many pennies could be saved with a change in the speed limit. Seriously. Even IF there was some savings and the government did pass the law do your honestly think people would follow the new, most likely, lower limit? Hmmm??? I regularly drive on a road with a 70mph speed limit and I drive 80 (sometimes but still I shouldn’t and shame on me) and I get passed like I’m going 60. If you want to pass a law to reduce US dependence on foreign oil and lower the cost of said fuel, fine. Come up with something that will actually accomplish those goals. If a lower speed limit is the best idea you have it is time to get off of the political highway.
What do you think is the best way to effectively face the energy crisis? Lower speed limits? Drilling off the coasts of the US? Requiring people to use bicycles? Tell me what you think we, as a nation, should do.
